More than anything I wanted our wedding to be out of the ordinary, a wedding that would not be "typical." I wanted my guests to walk away and say "wow, that was a great time" in hopes that each individual could take home with them a special memory of our special day so what better day to have our wedding than on New Years Eve!

I became engaged on May 1, 2002 when Phil showed up unexpectedly at my door on one knee and made me the happiest girl alive! I started out with the most difficult planning tasks first like finding my wedding dress. After searching several places and different designers I finally tried on the "THE DRESS," a designer Amsale. A simple antique white ball gown with a decorative appliqué through the bodice.

The ceremony was held at, what I believe to be the most beautiful church in our area, St. Mary Cathedral. The ceremony began at 6:30 in the evening. Luminaries lit the outside stairs to the church. The church was fully decorated with Christmas trees, poinsettias and candles, a true holiday setting. The trumpet was played by my cousin, Jeffrey Robke, a junior at Michigan State University, and a 3rd year member of the MSU marching band. Singers included dear friends, Elyse Wilhm and Richard Wendorf. The church organist, Bill Rowan, left a lasting impression on everyone there on the enormous pipe organ.

The reception was a black tie reception held at the Country Club of Lansing. The linens on the tables were also black with a moss tone, paisley overlay and black chair covers. Flowers were beautifully prepared by Mr. Scott Awad, owner of Design Essentials. Each table had different center pieces all enhanced by candle light. I opted not to have a head table but to have what is known as a "sweet heart" table for my new husband and I. However, the wedding party was seated close by with their significant others. When all the guests began to arrive in their formal attire, well, the banquet room was breathtaking which set the tone for a spectacular evening. Our band was a popular local group who helped us all bring in the New Year with style. They played light jazz during dinner and then a wide range of music for our guests of all ages. I have never seen a dance floor more packed anywhere.

At approximately 11:30 my wonderful bridesmaids and hostesses began passing out the New Year's Eve party favors, we had it all, from noise makers to party hats to confetti to paper throws, we were ready for 2003. At the strike of midnight—I knew I had achieved my goals: to be married to the man of my dreams and for all my family and closest friends to have an unforgettable evening!
