Zakiyyah Salim

My friend Alison Moore led me to find my husband, Lawrence Williams, and my Amsale dress, Sophia. Five years ago, Alison dragged me to a party where I met my husband shortly after walking in the door. After dating for three years, he asked me to marry him at Blue Ribbon in Brooklyn, New York after a snow storm derailed his original plan to propose in Puerto Rico.

I hated shopping for wedding dresses. I had no idea what I wanted but knew that I did not want a traditional bridal gown. After going to one bridal store, I settled on a dress that I liked but did not love. I told my friend Alison and she said "why don't you go to Amsale?" I hadn't seen any Amsale gowns during my search so I immediately went online and fell in love with the Sofia. My mother had flown in from California to see the gown I found but we scheduled an appointment to go to the Amsale flagship store first. We walked in and I requested Sofia. I put the dress on and we fell in love with it! We never made it to see the other gown.

My husband and I wed on April 19, 2008 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. We said our vows under the stars in Fels Planetarium and danced under Benjamin Franklin's gaze in Franklin Hall. I have never felt so beautiful in all of my life! My husband, friends and family said so themselves and they absolutely loved the gown. I am waiting for the day to thank Amsale in person for making my day so special.
